Lead Instructor

All IDPH licensed Lead Instructors are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of CE, of which 20 shall be related to the development, delivery and evaluation of education programs. This change became effective January of 2019.

Lead Instructor Specific CE Opportunities:
Ask your EMS System about CE for any Preceptor training they require.

Upcoming initial course dates and locations in Illinois as well as registrations can be found at and completed on-line at www.naemse.org, National Association of EMS Educators. Each class has on-line assignments prior to the course, so please register early to not only secure a seat, but to get started with enough advance time to get acquainted with your assigned team and to begin the learning process.

Note:  Illinois has specific requirements for Lead Instructors with respect to time, experience, and a recommendation from an EMS System.  Please make sure prospective registrants review the attached EMS rules (Section 515.700  EMS Lead Instructor) before signing up to take the class if they are expecting to be certified right after successful completion of the course. While Illinois only has a licensure for Lead Instructor I not Lead Instructor II but both are beneficial classes for a Lead Instructor.

Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Training for Mandated Reporters

Everyone who suspects child abuse or neglect should call the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Child Abuse Hotline to make a report, but Mandated Reporters are required by law to do so.
